The product
What exactly is Loonine?
Loonine is a digital loyalty card platform for local businesses such as cafés, bakeries, salons and restaurants. You create a branded loyalty card in minutes, and your customers keep it in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. There are no paper cards, and nothing for your customers to install.
What types of loyalty card can I create?
Two mechanics: stamps (buy ten coffees, get one free) and points (one euro spent equals one point). You set the goal and the reward, and you can change the goal later without reissuing cards.
How do I give a stamp or add points?
Every wallet card carries a unique QR code that you scan with the Loonine app to add a stamp or points in about a second. If a camera will not focus or a screen is cracked, you can also look the customer up by phone number and stamp them manually.
Can I send promotions to my customers?
Yes, on the Business and Enterprise plans. You send a notification straight to the customer's wallet card: a weekend offer, a new product, a reminder. Business includes one broadcast a week and Enterprise includes three, and you can buy extra broadcasts at any time.
Does the card update in real time?
Yes. The moment you add a stamp or points, the card in your customer's wallet updates with their new progress and their next reward. They see it on their lock screen without opening anything.
What happens when a customer completes their card?
Their card shows that a reward is ready. On their next visit you scan the QR code, the reward is marked as redeemed, and a fresh card starts automatically so they keep collecting.
Which languages does Loonine support?
The business app is in English, French and Arabic, with full right-to-left Arabic. Cards are issued in English or French.
Why enrol by phone number instead of a QR code?
Because scanning a QR code asks the customer to take out their phone, open a camera, focus on a code and tap through a page: four chances to decline while a queue builds. Typing a number moves that work to a staff member who is already holding a device, so enrolment happens even during a rush.
Can I see which customers have stopped coming?
Yes, every visit is recorded against the customer, so the dates of their last visits are on their record, and the paid plans include customer filters for working through them. This is the most valuable thing most businesses get from a loyalty programme: a list of named regulars who used to buy from you and have stopped, which no paper card can produce.
Does Loonine do tiers, gamification or hybrid reward models?
No. Loonine does stamps and points, and deliberately nothing more. Tiers need thousands of customers before a tier means anything, and games need explaining at a counter every time. If your programme requires gamification or a hybrid model, another platform is a better fit and it is worth saying so plainly.
Your customers
Do my customers need to download an app?
No. The loyalty card lives in the wallet that is already on their phone: Apple Wallet on iPhone, Google Wallet on Android. They receive a text message with a link, add the card with one tap, and that is the whole process.
How does a customer join my loyalty programme?
You ask for their phone number and type it into the Loonine app. They receive a text message in about three seconds containing a link that adds the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The customer never has to take out their phone while they are at your counter.
Which phones does this work on?
Every modern smartphone. iPhones use Apple Wallet and Android phones use Google Wallet, both of which are installed by default. In practice your loyalty programme covers essentially your entire customer base.
What happens if a customer loses their phone?
Nothing is lost. Apple Wallet cards are included in an iCloud backup and restore on a new iPhone automatically; Google Wallet cards are tied to the Google account and reappear on sign-in. The balance also lives on your record rather than on the phone, so even a deleted card can be reissued with the progress intact.
What if a customer changes their phone number?
Update the number on their record: the progress is not attached to the phone. Because the balance is held by your business and the card only displays it, changing the contact number keeps the history and the existing card continues to work. This is worth knowing before anyone is told to start again.
Can a customer have the card on two phones?
Yes. A wallet card can be installed on more than one device and both copies show the same balance, because both read the same record on your side: adding a stamp updates every copy. The common use is a shared household card. The same property means the enrolment link should be treated as personal, since anyone who opens it gets a copy.
What if a customer does not want to give their number?
Accept it immediately and offer the QR code or share link instead, which adds the card without you holding a number. A refusal at the counter is usually about the moment rather than the programme, and the same customer often says yes on a quieter day. What you must never do is enrol a number the customer did not agree to give.
Does the loyalty card cost the customer anything?
No. Receiving the text, adding the card and holding it are all free to the customer, there is no account to create and no subscription. The card also works offline once installed, so it opens and displays with no signal, only the update to a new stamp total needs a connection.
Pricing and billing
How much does Loonine cost?
Loonine has four plans. Free is a design sandbox with no customer enrolment. Premium is €24.99 a month for up to 200 customers, Business is €44.99 a month for up to 500 customers with one marketing broadcast a week, and Enterprise is €84.99 a month for up to 1,200 customers with three broadcasts a week. Every paid plan starts with one month free, and there are no setup fees or hardware to buy.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, a full month on any paid plan, with no commitment. You can cancel at any point during the trial and you will not be charged.
What can I do on the Free plan?
The Free plan lets you design your card, choose your reward and try the two card types, but it does not allow customer enrolment. It exists so you can see exactly what you would be buying before you pay. To enrol real customers you need Premium or above.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel from your App Store or Google Play subscription settings at any time. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription; it must be cancelled where you bought it.
What happens when I reach my plan's customer limit?
You move up a plan. The paid plans cover up to 200, 500 and 1,200 enrolled customers, so the cost of growing is the next band rather than a per-customer fee. It is worth picking the plan that fits where you expect to be in a few months rather than where you are on the first day.
Setup and devices
Which devices does the Loonine business app run on?
The business app runs on iPhone through the App Store and on Android through Google Play. Your customers need no app at all, whatever phone they carry.
Can my staff give stamps too?
Yes. You create a separate account for each employee with specific permissions: scan and stamp, view the dashboard, or manage customers. Every staff member logs in with their own credentials, so the owner's password never has to be shared.
In which countries is Loonine available?
Loonine is available in 35 countries: the United States, all 27 European Union member states, the five Gulf Cooperation Council states, and Jordan and Lebanon. The complete, current list is on the availability page and is also served from a public API endpoint.
What does the card look like for my customers?
It looks like your brand: your colours, your logo and your business name, showing the customer's progress and the reward they are working towards. You customise all of it from the app, and changes apply to cards that are already issued.
How long does setup take?
Creating your account and designing your card takes a few minutes. The branded wallet certificate is configured by our team within two business days, after which you can start adding customers. You will get an email and a push notification the moment it is ready.
Do I need special hardware or a POS integration?
No. Your phone is the only hardware you need: the app scans QR codes with the camera. There is no till integration, no terminal, no card printer and no scanner to buy.
Do I need an Apple Developer account?
No. Loonine provisions the wallet certificate in your business's name for you, which takes two business days after you subscribe. That wait is the one real delay in getting started: you can design the card immediately, but the first customer cannot be enrolled until the certificate is ready.
Can I change the card design after customers already have it?
Yes, and the change reaches every card already installed. A wallet card updates in place, so a new colour, logo or reward text appears on cards your customers are already holding without them doing anything. That makes it easy to fix a real problem and worth being conservative about otherwise, since every holder sees it.
Can I change the reward or the number of stamps later?
Yes, but migrate rather than switch. Customers holding progress under the old rule must be converted at a rate that never reduces what they had, and told about it plainly. A programme that resets progress teaches customers that progress is not real, which is the one lesson a loyalty programme cannot survive.
Data and privacy
Is my customers' data protected under GDPR?
Yes. Loonine is GDPR compliant. The customer data you collect (name and phone number) belongs to your business and is never sold or shared for advertising. It is hosted by our listed sub-processors, with EU transfers under Standard Contractual Clauses; see the privacy policy.
Who owns my customer list?
Your business owns it. Under GDPR your business is the data controller and Loonine is a data processor acting only on your instructions, which means Loonine does not use your customer list for its own purposes, does not sell it, and does not market to it. The customer list can be returned to you on request.
Can I export my customer list?
Not from the app today. Your customer list belongs to your business and can be returned to you on request to [email protected].
Where is my customer data stored?
Loonine's primary infrastructure is operated in the United States (US East region). Where personal data is transferred from the EU/EEA it is carried out under Standard Contractual Clauses. Loonine has appointed Prighter as its EU representative under GDPR Article 27. The sub-processors are published in a versioned list.
What data does Loonine hold about my customers?
Only what a loyalty programme needs: the customer's phone number, optionally their name, and their stamp or points balance with the dates of their visits. Loonine does not collect payment details, browsing behaviour or location history from loyalty customers, which is why a breach of a loyalty record cannot expose financial data.
What happens to my customer data if I cancel?
Ask us for a copy before you close the account, by writing to [email protected]. As the data controller you decide what happens to it, and a processor deletes or returns data on the controller's instruction.
Do I need the customer's consent to send them messages?
You need consent for marketing, and it has to be separate from joining. A customer giving you their number to receive a loyalty card has agreed to that card, including the text that delivers it and updates about their own balance, but not to promotions. Ask for marketing consent as its own question, and record when and how it was given.
What if a customer asks to be deleted?
Delete their record, promptly. Under GDPR in the EU and under the UAE's data protection law the customer has that right, and it is the business's obligation rather than Loonine's to act on it. Note that a customer deleting the card from their phone is not the same as asking to be forgotten: the card is a display of your record, not the record itself.
