Digital loyalty cards for yoga studios
The best loyalty programme for a yoga studio is a visit-based card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet rewarding every tenth class, which reinforces the attendance habit that determines whether a member renews.

A free class or a discount on the next block

Why this works for yoga studios
Attendance frequency is the single strongest predictor of renewal in fitness. A visit card makes attendance visible to the member and rewards the exact behaviour that keeps them subscribed.
Studios do not usually lose members to competitors. They lose members who stopped attending, felt guilty, and cancelled. Anything that raises attendance in the first eight weeks raises retention far more than any discount.
A visit card works because it makes an invisible habit visible. A member who can see they are two classes from a reward attends those two classes.
Pair the card with lapsed detection. A member who has not attended in three weeks is at serious risk, and a single well-timed message is often enough to restart the habit before cancellation.
Should the card count classes or months?
Classes. A studio's retention problem is the member who has paid for a block and attends twice, and only a class count makes that visible. Ten classes is roughly six weeks for someone practising once or twice a week.
Counting classes also aligns the reward with the behaviour you want. A monthly count rewards the direct debit; a class count rewards turning up, and turning up is what determines whether the membership renews.
How should a studio handle class packs?
Credit the visit when the class is attended rather than when the pack is bought, for the same reason a spa credits treatments rather than vouchers. An unattended pack is a refund risk and a churn signal, not a loyal customer.
The pack expiry conversation is easier with a visit record too. A member who used three of ten classes has a demonstrable reason to return before the pack lapses, and a single message naming that number recovers a meaningful share of them.
What is the right reward?
A free class or a discount on the next block. The free class costs a mat space that was likely unsold and keeps the member in the habit; the block discount converts a habit into committed revenue. Offering the choice is reasonable and costs nothing to administer.
What yoga studios usually struggle with
- Members cancel because they stopped attending, not because of price
- The riskiest window is the first eight weeks, and it goes by unnoticed
- Class packs expire unused, which breeds resentment rather than loyalty
- Attendance dips seasonally and often never recovers
What we would set up for you
A stamps card with 10 as the goal and a free class or a discount on the next block as the reward. Customers enrol by phone number at the counter (they never take out their phone), and the card lands in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in about three seconds.
You can change the goal or the reward later without reissuing anyone's card, so there is no penalty for starting with this and adjusting once you have real data.
